Saving money is just one of the many benefits of properly caring for your lingerie so that it will last for years to come. On the other hand, when you mishandle the care of lingerie, you risk ripping or tearing sensitive materials such as lace. If this has ever happened to you, then you know how easy it is to destroy a nice item of lingerie, and how frustrating it can be.
Unlike light bulbs and video game or computer systems, lingerie really doesn't have a shelf life that requires replacement after a certain amount of time. As long as you take good care of your lingerie, your lingerie should take good care of you for a very long time. A sheer baby doll with holes like Swiss cheese just isn't sexy anymore, and a silk nightgown or robe that is stained just loses that visual appeal. It's much easier to make your lingerie last longer (by caring for your intimate apparel properly) than it is to repair any damage to your lingerie. So the following tips have been collected to help you maintain your lingerie for maximum performance, as long as-and as often as-you like. General Care Tips for LingerieIntimate apparel always includes a tag that has special instructions for care of that particular garment. You should not remove this tag, but even if you do you should be sure to thoroughly memorize the recommended care for that piece of lingerie. Otherwise, refer to the care instructions on the tag for the best advice on how to maintain that individual piece of lingerie. - Always use a laundry bag when washing lingerie in a washing machine!
If you do not have a laundry bag, a pillow case can be tied in a knot as a substitute for washing lingerie in a machine. Using a laundry bag is very important because it will prevent your lingerie from catching on anything that may cause a rip or tear. - Hand washing lingerie is recommended...
When you hand wash lingerie, you should use warm water and allow lingerie to soak for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. (Use the correct measurements of laundry soap, and pour it in while the water is filling so it will be all "bubbly". After soaking, you'll rub each individual piece of lingerie together to remove any dirt or stains. Doing this yourself protects the lingerie from catching on any loose zippers or hooks that could cause a rip or tear. After you have finished washing your lingerie, you should rinse thoroughly with cool water. - Do not over dry your lingerie!
Intimate apparel is very sensitive material, and should always be hung to dry or pressed between towels to dry. A dryer can ruin your lingerie, even if you leave lingerie in the laundry bag and run the dryer on low. It's not worth the risk...
